About the role

As a national press officer for the NFU you will play an integral role within our fast-paced Communications team. You will support the smooth day-to-day running of the press office by monitoring our coverage and that of the wider farming sector, showcasing the NFU’s positive news to staff and members as well as helping to rebut and respond in real time where needed to that ensure food and farming coverage is fair and accurate.


Working alongside our media advisers, you will use your experience to forge positive links with journalists and provide the media with timely information about NFU policy and the agricultural industry. Your excellent written skills will be utilised to create news releases that are used by key trade and national media. To ensure the NFU continues to have the loudest voice in British farming you will work with our office holders and staff to organise interviews for a variety of consumer and business to business media outlets. Supporting the Campaigns team, you’ll help to drive positive, effective coverage of NFU campaigns to ensure they have real impact, as well as proactively discussing opportunities for campaign content with journalists. You’ll contribute fresh ideas to maximise coverage and build on the communication team’s award-winning achievements to date.
