Assistant Adviser (Land Management)

About you

Are you a conscientious and co-operative individual who is good with detail and enjoys working with people? Do you have a sense of urgency to get things done quickly whilst maintaining a balance of working accurately and to tight deadlines?

The NFU is looking for an Assistant Adviser to support the work of the Land Management team. You will need to have experience of working with farmers, working with stakeholders and experience of researching, interpreting and communication of regulations and legislation.

To be successful in this role you must be a great communicator and will possess the ability to work well within a team and also by yourself with minimal supervision.

About the role

Based in the Policy Services team in Stoneleigh, Warwickshire, you will report to the Chief Adviser (Land Management) and will work in conjunction with others including HQ and regional colleagues, and other appropriate professionals

In particular, you will support the NFU’s developing policy work on rural crime which includes working proactively with a range of stakeholders including government departments and police representatives. You will also work closely with NFU’s Communications and Campaigns teams to ensure members are aware of the range of policy work taking place on rural crime, and you will be involved in supporting the a new NFU initiative with Crimestoppers.

In addition, you will represent members' interests and concerns in discussions about the delivery and implementation on issues relating to for example, hot air balloons and low flying aircraft, dangerous dogs, sky lanterns, firearms, pest management and provide liaison with Network Rail. Within this role, you will be required to interpret and communicate all relevant legislation, policies and associated information to members, briefing NFU Officeholders, Policy and Commodity boards as well as NFU staff, where appropriate. This will also require you to prepare NFU responses to policy and legislative proposals.
