Do you have the resilience and maturity to stand behind your technical expertise and provide confident and pragmatic legal opinion, whilst forming and maintaining strong and effective working relationships?
You should possess a strong academic record (including at least 3 A Levels at A/B grades in good quality academic subjects), hold a law or non-law degree (2:1 or above, from a high-ranking University), and CPE/GDL qualification, and will be qualified as a solicitor or barrister. You will have experience in providing legal advice on one or more of the following areas: environmental law; contracts & torts; administrative law; animal health and welfare; CAP schemes; rights of way; EU law; or, litigation.
You will be fully computer literate, with the ability to adopt a self-sufficient approach to providing written or verbal advice.
You will have, or be keen to develop, an interest in farming issues and the agricultural industry.
About the role
The NFU has 2 Legal Adviser roles available. One is a fixed term contract for up to 12 months and the other is a permanent contract. . The role will require you to provide in-house legal advice on all aspects of the NFU’s lobbying and policy work as a trade association. A trusted source of high quality in-house advice and support, you will be keen to take on new areas of law and to expand the breadth of your knowledge and experience across a wide range of legal areas. You will enjoy the ability to influence outcomes, and will be rewarded by seeing the contribution you have made to changes in the industry.
Free from time recording and billing targets, you will have the discretion and autonomy to work on the issues of the day, responding quickly and adeptly to emerging priorities. Supported by the Chief Legal Adviser, you will welcome the responsibility to handle a diverse and complex workload.
