You will join a team focussed on delivering the benefits on animal breeding to the cattle and sheep sectors within the technical function of AHDB. You will be working alongside AHDB Dairy and Signet Breeding Services colleagues who deliver breed evaluations for pedigree cattle and sheep, as well as a range of related R&D projects. Within the wider Directorate you will be working with the Knowledge Exchange teams who deliver programmes to commercial farmers.
Working closely with industry partners, including breeding organisations, companies and representative bodies, you will lead the delivery of a number of development projects to underpin greater uptake of objective breeding tools (such as estimated breeding values) in the cattle sector.
Linking with the research and knowledge exchange teams within AHDB, you will take research project outcomes through the development phase and into industry application, and support the KE team with technical expertise.
You will be recognised as an expert in applied animal breeding (cattle fertility, breeding and genetics science) with a relevant degree and ideally post graduate qualification, with the capability of translating your knowledge to a communicate with a range of stakeholders.
A skilled communicator with the ability to build a network, and work with those throughout the beef and dairy sectors, based on a practical knowledge of UK farming (in the pedigree and/or commercial sectors), you should be able demonstrate a track record in delivering development projects or knowledge exchange programmes. You will be able to demonstrate a track record in managing complex and challenging projects.
Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of animal breeding and genetics, you should be able to speak with persuasive authority to a range of audiences, from one-to-one meetings to large group presentations. Your written English should also be of a high standard with the ability to adapt your style to suit the target.
You will have a flexible approach to working hours and the ability to travel throughout the UK, with a full driving licence being essential.
